About Us

Karen & Arvid

Karen and Arvid have lived in Norra Stensjö since the late 1990s. Arvid is originally from Småland and still has a forest farm there. In December every year we sell Christmas trees from Arvid forest. Arvid has been active in the Territorial Army of Sweden for many years.

Karen is originally from Denmark, but moved to Sweden over 40 years ago. She ran a macrobiotic course center, Björklyckan, for 20 years, where people from all over the world came to learn how our food choices impact our health. She has also worked at the high school in Karlskrona, where she specialised in youths with autism spectrum disorders.

Together Karen and Arvid run Bomull & Bin, where they produce one of the most sought-after honeys in the local area. They use traditional and local raw materials to make dynamic, different and delicious food. They also sell natural textiles.

A visit to Norra Stensjö offers you a blend of simplicity, warmth and laughter.

Bi-odling

Every year we produce over half a tonne of honey, which we sell in our farm shop and at local markets. Vi rent out beehives and we have also started the concept ‘church honey’, where we lend local churches a beehive. This allows the bees to pollinate the area around the church and the honey is later sold by the church to raise money for their projects.

Levande mat

Karen has over 40 years experience working with food and health. She has written books on the subject in both Swedish, English and German. She offers delicious and nourishing meals, sourdough bread, jam and cordial made from garden fruit, fermented vegetables, kvass and much more. You can also take a forest walk with Karen, where she shows you all the wild herbs that grow in the area and teach you how you can use these in your daily cooking.

Naturtextil

Karen has worked with natural textiles since the early 1980s. You will find futon mattresses stuffed only with the purest cotton, or pillows filled with kapok, a thistle-plant. We also sell underwear made only from natural materials.

Q & A

When you come on a bee safari by us, you will spend a whole day with us and our hundreds of thousands of pet bees. We show you all the aspects of beekeeping and you even get to make your very own jar of honey that you can bring home with you at the end of the day. Apart from learning about the bees, you will be served a delicious lunch made from local produce and enjoy a day in the serenity that is the Blekinge nature. And while you’re here, why not also go for a swim in the lake?

Children are welcome by us! Our bee-safari can also be done with children. Vi har protective outfits so that also children can come up close to the fascinating world of the bees. We have a big trampline, garden games, a lake to swim or splash in, a canoe to paddle and of course a freezer that has been known to hold ice creams! A day by us is as big an experience for the young as it is for the (slightly) older.

We sell honey from our own garden, as well as several honey related related like propolis and pollen. We also sell sourdough bread, fermented vegetables like sauerkraut. You will also find cordial and jam from our garden and many other goodies.
